Bianca Mayes, MPH, CHES (she/her) is a dedicated health equity champion and Black, queer, femme advocate from New Jersey, tirelessly working to ensure equitable healthcare for all. As the National Director of Black Health Equity at Planned Parenthood Federation of America, Bianca spearheads crucial initiatives that elevate Black health equity across the organization’s 600 health centers. Collaborating directly with 49 affiliate CEOs, she drives impactful strategic planning, leadership development, and technical assistance for health providers nationwide. As a Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES) and holder of a Master of Public Health (MPH), Bianca’s work doesn’t just respond to the needs of today but also sets the groundwork for a more equitable, healthier future. Recognized for her thought leadership, Bianca is a sought-after speaker, a mentor to emerging health professionals, and a dedicated advocate for social and health justice.
Bianca’s expertise extends into academia as an adjunct professor in Monmouth University’s School of Nursing and Health Studies, where she teaches Human Sexuality and Women’s Health, inspiring future leaders in health care. With over a decade of experience in addressing health disparities, social determinants of health, and health promotion, Bianca brings a wealth of knowledge and passion to her work, focusing on racial equity, sexual and reproductive health, and culturally responsive care.
Her commitment to justice is reflected in her extensive volunteer work with the PROUD Gender Center Advisory Council at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, where she promotes clinical and cultural competency for transgender and nonbinary patients. She also helped drive the passage of New Jersey’s S2545 legislation, establishing protections for LGBTQI+ and HIV-positive residents in long-term care facilities. From 2019 to 2021, Bianca co-chaired the Issues Committee for New Jersey’s HIV/AIDS Health Planning Group, furthering her commitment to advocacy and health equity in collaboration with the NJ Department of Health.
Bianca’s contributions have earned her numerous accolades, including the 40 Under 40 Leaders in Minority Health Award by the National Minority Quality Forum in 2023, and the Human Rights Advocacy Award from the RWJUH PROUD Gender Center in 2022. She was also recognized as #79 on INSIDER OUT’s 100 NJ’s LGBT Powerlist, celebrating her local, state, and national advocacy for LGBTQ+ rights and her relentless work in eliminating discrimination and hate-motivated violence. Most recently, she was honored by her undergraduate alma mater, William Paterson University of New Jersey, as a recipient of their 50 Under 50 Initiative, recognizing her for professional achievements that align with the university’s vision of being a Powerhouse of Progress.
