In this session, Dr. Mike Pitt, Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Minnesota and Co-founder and CEO of Q-rounds will share cutting edge research (conducted at the Minnesota State Fair) on how healthcare providers reliably confuse patients and what can be done about it. At the end of the session, participants will be able to:

• Define jargon oblivion, the disconnect between providers' intent to communicate clearly and the reality that they often use terms that are not understood by patients 

• Describe seven types of jargon and how clinicians can learn to avoid each 

• Implement solutions in their own hospitals to bring the Time Transparency™ we come to expect in all arenas of life into the hospital, allowing for meaningful conversations among doctors, nurses, and patient families during hospital rounds
