Managing Director Root, Inc.

Kalen Stanton is a Managing Director leading healthcare partnerships and solutions at Root Inc. Kalen is an experienced change and strategic transformation leader in healthcare environments such as academic medicine, multispecialty medical groups, accountable care organizations, and retail health, with special focus on care model innovation, patient access, experience design, population health , and electronic health record optimization. Prior to Root, Kalen served as a business leader and architect for innovative partnership solutions at The Advisory Board Company. He helped launch the first experience design practice of its kind in healthcare, exploring new ways to redesign strategy, culture, and operations with out-of-industry exemplars as inspiration and the end experience as the goal. He also served as the Chief of Staff for Advisory Board Consulting, bringing together physician-led health system organizations to tackle complex challenges such as patient access and transitioning from volume to value-based environments. Kalen began his healthcare career in one of the first fast-growing retail health startup models in the United States. Some of Kalen’s partnerships included guiding a multiyear patient access transformation for an academic medical center comprised of over 1,000 physicians and 100 clinics in southern California. This work defined new standards of experience and access that led to over $30 million in annualized revenue and productivity. Another involved developing a consumer-focused and community-enabled population health playbook for a multi-billion-dollar health system in the Carolinas, which welcomed new providers into early-stage shared savings agreements and unlocked new partnerships with community access points. Kalen also led the development of a new clinical care model design at a premiere pediatric hospital in California. With a “lean in, design out” approach that engaged physicians, nurses, and all team members, this new model decreased cycle time while increasing volume, experience, and depart quality. Kalen received his Master of Business Administration from Vanderbilt University’s Owen Graduate School of Management and his undergraduate degree from Furman University. He is a Board Director for an international not-for-profit called Global Connections that provides health and education for underserved people in East Africa. His passion is unlocking human potential at the intentional intersection of leaders and their teams.
