Marisa is from Bethlehem, Pennsylvania and knew she was destined for the medical profession at a very young age. She set a path for herself to become a Nurse Practitioner and started by getting her BSN in 2000 from Cedar Crest College in Allentown, PA. After graduation, she began working as an internal travel nurse at a small, community hospital, while continuing to work at Macy’s in the women’s shoe department to support her shoe obsession. As a graduate nurse who decided to do internal travel, she gained a wide-variety of clinical experience but also learned the importance of relationship- building. After 2 years at that facility, Marisa knew it was time for a change so she interviewed with St. Luke’s University Health Network where she began working as a medical surgical nurse in 2002. It was then time to start her journey towards her Master’s to become a Nurse Practitioner. Marisa completed her MSN in 2006 at DeSales University and found her dream job with the Hospitalist group which she still has today. Marisa continued her educational journey and completed her Doctorate in Clinical Leadership in 2013 and then her MBA in Healthcare in 2022. She has held several clinical leadership positions within her organization and currently is the Senior Medical Director of the Hospitalists and Clinical Operations including the Patient Experience Department for the Network.
Rest is not a luxury—it’s a clinical necessity. In this calming yet impactful keynote, leaders from St. Luke’s University Hospital Network explore how a focus on rest, quiet, and recovery can transform the patient experience. Drawing from their initiative to redesign the hospital environment around the principles of silence, soothe, and sleep, Christina Musser and Dr. Marisa Schwartz will share how small environmental shifts can yield powerful results in healing, satisfaction, and trust.
Attendees will learn how intentional design and behavior changes can reduce anxiety, promote restfulness, and support both patients and caregivers in high-stress clinical settings.
