Her desire is to alleviate fears, build trust, and create an exceptional experience. Mindy’s proud to be a nurse with a Masters degree in Nursing. Mindy has taught in academic and clinical settings and has presented at numerous National, State and local conferences. Mindy’s research study on fears experienced by patients and families is available on Amazon in a book entitled “There’s A Snake on My Head”. Imagine. You are afraid of snakes and there is a snake on your head. I enter the room and tell you important things you need to know to take care of yourself. How much will you hear with a snake on your head? Everyday people walk into healthcare afraid: patients, families, AND health care team members. While they are afraid, they cannot hear the important information we are sharing. In this presentation, we will explore the speaker’s research study on patient and family’s fear and the most important things we can do to ease their fear.

  • Describe the impact of fear on patients, families, and the health care team
  • Discuss the research on the most important things people need when they are afraid
  • Utilize effective strategies to decrease fear in patients, families and the health care team and themselves
