Nicole Rossol is the Chief Patient Experience Officer at Stony Brook Medicine. She is responsible for the design and implementation of a comprehensive strategy to drive, foster and instill a system-wide culture of engagement practices at every touchpoint to improve the patient and caregiver experience. Mrs. Rossol joined Stony Brook in 2019 as the inaugural Chief Patient Experience Officer and previously was at NYU Long Island Hospital, where she served as Patient Experience Officer. Nicole received her Bachelor of Science in Health and Human Services from Boston University Sargent College of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences. She holds a Masters in Science Degree from Bank Street College of Education. She has served as Adjunct Faculty at Bank Street College of Education and as a Clinical co-facilitator for the Stony Brook University Alan Alda Center for Communication Science. She currently serves as a co-chair of the Stony Brook Medicine Health Equity Steering Committee and is a member of The Chief Experience Officer Press Ganey Collaborative, The Schwartz Center, The Beryl Institute Executive Leadership Council and was a Public Member on the Board for The Council on Surgical and Perioperative Safety and various National Committees for The Association of Child Life Professionals. Nicole is also a member of the Health Care Leaders of New York, The American College of Healthcare Executives and the American Hospital Association Health Equity Collaborative. She presents nationally on various leadership, patient and caregiver engagement topics and uses her expertise and passion to improve the human experience of care.
Throughout their journey to becoming among the first to obtain The Joint Commission Health Care Equity advanced certification, Stony Brook University Hospital took several key steps that contributed to their success, including establishing a systemwide Health Equity committee structure, conducting a systemwide gap analysis and activating interdisciplinary teams to address identified gaps, developing a standardized health equity curriculum and customized social needs screening tool, and creating interactive health equity dashboards. Together with the American Hospital Association Health Equity Roadmap, the advanced certification elements of performance provided a framework with which to propel advanced health equity work forward beyond regulatory expectations.
